Add webpaging to your website!
|
|

The directions below are for webmasters interested in adding webpaging functionality to their website. This allows any internet user to send a message from a website to any Rinkers alpha-numeric pager. As you may know with a computer there are always a number of different ways to accomplish any task. Outlined below is just one possibility for configuring your website so that users can send you an e-mail page.
Requirements
- A CGI-enabled Webserver
- perl
- sendmail
- Download html and perl files
Click here to download page.zip. This file contains three files. cgi-lib.pl is a standard library of Perl routines to manipulate CGI input. page.html is an html form for sending webpages. page.pl is a perl script for reading the form input and sending e-mail with sendmail.
- Extract the files
From most Unix/Linux systems type 'unzip page.zip'. From Windows you can use any unzip utility. I suggest WinZip.
- Move the files
You will need to move page.html to your html directory. You will also need to move page.pl and cgi-lib.pl to your cgi-bin directory.
- Set the permissions
You will need to make sure that page.pl and cgi-lib.pl are readable and executable. Also double check that page.html is readable.
- Check that path to Perl and sendmail
You will need to make sure that the path to Perl in page.pl and cgi-lib.pl is set correctly for your system. You will need to make sure that the path to sendmail in page.pl is set correctly for your system. The default path to Perl is /usr/local/bin/perl. The default path to sendmail is /usr/sbin/sendmail.
- You're Done!
Test it out. If you experience any problems or cannot get it to function correctly please notify me, tom@cort.ws, and I will help you to the best of my abilities.
